  1. This is a very interesting cover. In that period, between 50 and 60 years of last century a lot of British Commonwealth Countries adopted on their stamps the image of the Queen’s portrait painted by the Italian artist Pietro Annigoni (1910-1988) in 1954-’55, as the symbol of the new elizabethan era and also because it was so beautiful and perfect for beeing reproduced on stamps, banknotes, postcards and other item and souvenirs.

    1. Thanks Emanuele,

Indeed, the Annigoni portrait is often referred to as the ‘definitive’ portrait of the Queen, and with good cause. The best use of it though has to be on the Hong Kong sets 1962-72.What a fabulous set of stamps!

      Thanks
