The Barbados ‘Badge of the Colony’ set was issued between early January 1938 and April 1947 and collecting each of these issues on First Day Cover is quite a challenge. First Day Covers we not a big thing at the time and there were no illustrated covers like we have today so almost all the covers are plain envelopes. This one is no exception.
This is the very last of the set to be issued, the 3d Blue on 1st April 1947 and this cover is different in that there are a pair of stamps on a registered cover sent to the USA. Sent from the Registered Letter Office on the island the cover has a neat First Day of Issue handstamp across the top, probably to make sure that it didn’t simply get discarded on arrival!
