As I previously wrote in a blog earlier this month, the new 70th Anniversary of the Barbados Fire Service stamps were finally issued on 29th September 2025, and I have the first images of them below.
The set comprises five stamps as previously listed, but the one surprising thing now I have them on the desk in front of me, is the size. The stamps are 56mm x 33.55mm each, and are perforated 13½ x 13¾. The thing that strikes you first about them is that they look big. Measuring them against previous issues, they are definitely the biggest stamps since Barbados became a republic and the closest I can find to anything of a similar size, although slightly smaller, is the Gardens of Barbados issue in 2014.
Close up, the set look really good and early reservations about the imagery being lost due to the usual small stamp size, turn out to be false. The images are clear and do the subject matter justice.
The set is accompanied by a tasteful First Day Cover tied with a special first day of issue cancel.
Here are the images so you can see for yourself.
I’d welcome your thoughts below, as always. What do you think? A decent representation of the Fire Service? Better than the 50th Anniversary set?
