QEII 1970-1979

The Barbados FDC’s of QEII between 1970-1979

The tradition of plain covers continued into the 1970’s with some covers proving really hard to source. As an example, the Flowers of Barbados Mini Sheet FDC shown here is the only one I have ever seen. As to illustrated covers, outside of major events these are incredibly hard to find. As an example, the Pottery set of 1973 and the 13th Regional C.P.A. Conference in 1977 are scarce on illustrated covers, the two shown here being the only one’s I’ve seen in over a decade of looking.

And along with the plain covers, the practice of nonspecific cancels continued and it’s not until the Bicentennial of the American Revolution in 1976 that we see the first purpose-made cancel simply saying ‘First Day of Issue’.
